Sean is a huge proponent of mediation and dispute resolution as part of an effort to try and resolve divorce and custody cases. His philosophy is that the client must receive the most aggressive and zealous representation possible but that certainly compromise, collaboration and an authentic effort at mediation is a far better approach than taking cases to trial and having a Judge make a decision or decisions that everyone is unhappy with. Sean represents people in no contest divorces as well as complex divorce cases involving individuals with high income and high net worth. Sean works with some of the best litigation experts in West Michigan, with respect to business valuations, forensic accounting, appraisers, investigators and medical and psychiatric experts to assist in difficult cases. Additionally, he assists clients with Michigan living will and trust matters, ensuring their estate planning needs are met.

On the Elder Law side of the practice, Sean is also considered one of the top Estate Planning and Medicaid Asset Protection attorneys in Grand Rapids. He represents clients in developing the right trust and estate planning attorney strategies to protect their assets from probate, over taxation, and the loss of everything to a nursing home. Sean helps a wide variety of clients in probate litigation, including will contests, trust contests, guardianships, conservatorships and planning for special needs children and adults. Sean is an accredited attorney with the Veterans Administration and has assisted hundreds of Veterans to obtain the VA Aid and Attendance Pension to pay for their care in independent living facilities, assisted living facilities and in-home care.

Sean is happily married to Cheryl Cox. Cheryl is the firm’s Practice Manager. Together they have two teenage children, Keegan and Grace. They also share their beloved Daisy Dog, Bono.
